HPV infection is caused by a virus called human papillomavirus. There are over a hundred varieties of this virus. Many of them cause warts but some can lead to various cancers; this makes Orlando HPV something that should not be taken lightly.
What is HPV?
This viral infection leads to the formation of warts on the skin. Most of these infections do not threaten to turn into cancer; however, there are some types of HPV infections that might lead to cancer in different body parts like the cervix, penis, anus, back of the throat, etc. Most types of HPV infections can be curbed by vaccines, and this makes it a very important part of the war against cancer.
Type of warts
Depending on the kind of virus being responsible for the infection, you can have several types of warts.
- Common warts: These warts can be painful and tend to bleed or get injured and generally form on hands and fingers. They are like raised bumps which are rough.
- Plantar warts: These usually form on the sole of your feet and can cause discomfort in walking. They appear to be rough and grainy and are hard.
- Genital warts: These warts are flat and appear in groups of stem-like protrusions which can appear on the genital parts of men and women. They sometimes cause discomfort to a person and might be itchy.
- Flat warts: These are flat and are slightly raised from the surface of the skin. They can appear anywhere on the body; however, patterns show that it is common for children to get them on the face, men commonly get them in the beard area, and women get them on the legs.
Who might be at risk?
- Age can be a factor in HPV. Studies show that common warts generally occur in children and genital warts commonly affect adolescents and young adults.
- The number of sexual partners that you have also might affect your chances of getting the disease as it can be sexually transmitted.
- People who have a weak immune system are also susceptible to getting an HPV infection
- It is a disease that is communicable through personal contact like sharing a swimming pool or touching without protection. So if you come in contact with a person who has the disease and are not careful about it, you might also end up getting the infection.
