Here’s a look at the currencies that Path of Exile has to offer.
Something that really sets Path of Exile apart from other similar games is the currency system it has. PoE currency comes in different forms as opposed to your typical gold option. Instead, the ARPG opts for orbs and other forms of currency. Here we will be taking a look at currency items in the game, based on their rarity.
Higher Currency
Let’s start by taking a look at the more expensive currency items in the game. In this category, we have Exalted Orbs and Chaos Orbs. You can purchase these using PoE currency if you wish. Or they can be used for selling PoE items. With Exalted Orb, you get mods that are added to rare items. Meanwhile, Chaos Orbs re-roll the mods on rare items. The Exalted Orb is used to buy and sell expensive items, as this is the price of many Chaos Orbs.
You also have the Orb of Annulment, which you can use for crafting. This will add mods to both rare and magic items. The Ancient Orb is used in certain areas of league, and is able to alter a unique item to make it into another from the same class of item. There’s also the Divine Orb, which will re-roll the value of the mods on equipment.
If you ever want to create a mirrored copy of an item, then you can do so with the Mirror of Kalandra. There is a reason as to why we are mentioning it here in particular. You’re going to need a lot to get your hands on one. This is a super rare and expensive item, which will set you back many Exalted Orbs, even hundreds of them.
Valuable Currency
There are also valuable currency items that you usually see being used by players at a higher level. First off, we have the Orb of Alchemy, which is able to upgrade normal items up to rare items. This is useful for end-game gear in particular, which explains why it’s mainly used by higher level players.
Then, we have the Orb of Fusing which re-rolls socket links. You can remove mods from magic or rare items and make them normal with an Orb of Scouring too. The Vaal Orb is used for corrupting items, as well as breaking items. They can also introduce new modifiers as well if you wish. If you want to upgrade any of your magic equipment to rare, then you can do so using a Regal Orb. To gain passive skill respec points, then you’ll need the Orb of Regret. You can improve gem quality as well with Gemcutter’s Prism.
We also have to look at currencies that are map focused. You’ll be able to use the Cartographer’s Chisel to improve item quality, and replace maps with Orb of Horizons. The shooting range in this instance would stay the same, if you wanted it higher you’ll need Harbinger’s Orb. There’s a different kind of currency that will help you add special modifiers to maps. These are called Sextants, and they come in three forms. These are Simple, Prime, and Awakened Sextants. The better Sextant you have, the more likely you are to get better mods.
Basic PoE Currency
There are some forms of the common currency as well. These can come in the form of scrolls. You will have Portal Scrolls and Wisdom Scrolls. A Portal Scroll will help you to create a portal to town, as the name would suggest. The Wisdom Scroll meanwhile will unidentified items for you.
With the basic orbs like Orb of Transmutation, you can introduce modifiers to normal items. This will make the magic, therefore increasing the rarity. The Orb of Chance will allow you to upgrade your gear, and you could get lucky to get a rare or unique item out of it. The Orb of Alteration will re-roll mods on your magic equipment, and the Blessed Orb re-rolls whatever the value of your modifiers are.
There are some forms of the coin too in Path of Exile, with the Silver and Perandus Coin. These are PoE currency items that you use with NPCs. You can use Silver Coins with Navali, and Perandus Coins with Cadiro Perandus. The latter is harder to get to since you need the Perandus mod at the game’s end.
Be sure to familiarise yourself with the PoE Trade system too. This will be a great place for you to buy and sell PoE items of value when you are playing Path of Exile.
